(More customer reviews)I bought this for my older cat who has no body fat on her. It serves a dual purpose in that it protects her favorite chair from the majority of the hair she sheds; but the best thing about it is the warmth it provides to her. Yes, it does "crinkle" as the previous reviewer said. That didn't bother my cat though. She took to it right away. The faux fur provides comfort and warmth and the "crinkly" stuff on the inside reflects back her body heat. I rested my feet and calves on it one day while I was napping on the couch; I can verify that it actually works in reflecting back your body heat; my legs were kept toasty by this pad. No wonder my cat loves it. Highly recommended!

(More customer reviews)The bed arrived in the time promised, but the diameter is much, much smaller than what it claims to be. Even a kitten would not be comfort able. Between different family members, we have 6 cats and none of them would have anything to do with it, no matter what we tried. I think the picture show somewhat misrepresents the item (at least there should be a side view of the item and how the cat looks laying in the bed. The bed is a little flimsy, the bottom should be more padded and the sides should be able to roll down a little better. The bed looks just like a fabric version of the cat's water bowl. Maybe it would be better if it truly were 17" diameter, made of different fabric and have more padding in the bottom it would be better. The fabric looks and feels like building insulation.

The cover is a royal blue background and with dark blue leopard like spots, the color is somewhat vivid, but relatively tasteful. Cat hair doesn't seem to stick to it like it does to fleece material. The cushion is nice, not too firm but firm enough that it won't fall apart. The power management keeps it almost room temperature until the cat lays on it and then it heats up to cat body temperature. I keep my house relatively cool in the winter and this is an economically sound way to keep the cats warm and happy. My cats love it. It is really 16" in diameter, only big enough for one cat at a time.

(More customer reviews)My cats really like this, and it's big enough for even my biggest (25 lbs!) cat. However, they are all really freaked out that it's noisy -- whatever is inside the fabric, it makes crunchy, crinkling noises. But once they are settled on it, they're really happy. It's great!

(More customer reviews)My cat is a "sauna cat." In the middle of summer, she would sleep on the overheating stereo receiver, or block the X360's exhaust vents. This winter, these are no longer available, and she's constantly pestering me for a lap. Which is nice, and makes me feel loved, but I know what she really wants. So I ordered this mat.
As soon as the mat arrived, I plugged it in, confirmed that it making heat, and set the cat on it. The cat did not move for two days. She barely gets up to eat. I'm sleeping alone, and my lap is always empty. Unconditional love? Hah!
It does not appear to generate heat until you press the foam cushioning. If you're a cat, you can accomplish this easily by walking or lying on it. :) I believe it acts as an insulator otherwise. This should reduce waste heat when the cat is not on it, but some cats may not be impressed, what with their short attention spans and all. Once you're pressing on it, it generates what I would describe as the "perfect level" of warmth. (My cat would probably want it scalding hot, but I couldn't stand the smell of burning hair, so it's for the best.)
The heater insert is less than 6" wide, so it does not get warm all the way across its 12.5" width. It does get warm from end to end down the middle. The product would be improved if the entire pad got warm. I could probably fit two warming strips side by side and heat the entire surface of the pad... is fire safety an issue here?
Heater insert width notwithstanding, my cat says I should give it 5 stars, so I have.

I added a photograph to this product page, showing three of our Maine Coons (about 40 pounds of feline pulchritude) heaped together on their thermal mat. They (the mats, not the cats) are a cinch to wash, too.
If you object to cat hair on your furniture, cover your cushions with these mats. Your cats will appreciate that extra bit of reflected body heat, and you won't have so much vacuuming to do.

(More customer reviews)We (or rather, our cat) has had this mat for over two years. She tends to get cold readily and usually sleeps some or all of the night with us. But the rest of the night, and much of every day, she is on the mat. So we figure it must be warming her. She really seems to like it.
The mat does make little crunching noises when she works it over with her paws before settling into it, but the crunching is not loud, couldn't wake anybody, and is actually sort of pleasant to hear, somehow slightly comical.
It's less garish than it might appear in the photo, not bad at all. After two years, the mat is none the worse for wear.
I can contrast this mat with the SnuggleSafe Heat Pad. While us humans have found that it does a good job of preheating our sheets for our feet in the winter, our cat never seemed to like it at all.

(More customer reviews)I have 2 kittens (3 months) and 2 senior (17+) cats. I thought this would be great for all of them, especially with winter coming. A friend of mine bought one and says her cat loves it. Not the case with my cats. None of my cats prefer this pad to any other blanket or cushion. The don't avoid it, they just don't love it. If I had to do it over I would not have purchased this product. Also there is something inside that sounds like a plastic grocery bag. I do have one old cat that is scared by and hates the noise. No literature comes with the product stating weather or not it is machine washable. I will be washing mine as needed. This is a fine cat mat or bed, I just really don't buy it's "thermal properties".

(More customer reviews)Very soft and larger than I thought. The dimensions were listed, so it was my mis-calculation. The cats love the crinkle sound. Adequately padded. I bought 2 of these for the furballs to sit on the ledge and look out the window in the winter. Last year they sat there and their paws were as cold as ice... I know, they are animals. But, I bought these to keep them cozy and warm while they gaze at the birds, chipmunks, etc. Nice blue color, very deep. Not cheap looking.

(More customer reviews)We bought two of these based on good reviews. We have a couple of cats that live in the garage and it gets down to 60ish out there at night. We also have a big fat old male cat that lives indoors.
The two girls out in the garage took to it immediately and even sleep together on it, which says a lot because they dont really like each other!
The male cat was a little concerned about it at first due to the crinkling sound. But I put it on the table next to the window where he likes to sleep and then noticed about 3/4 through the day that I hadnt seen him. Right on the pad. He usually comes down and watches tv with me at night and sleeps on my head, but he decided to stay on his pad most of the time and sleeps there now.
Which is a major plus, since having a 20-something pound cat sleeping on your head isnt the greatest thing in the world.
I've washed them in our front loader on delicate/handwash and they came out clean but the fabric holds plenty of fur. Hung them out to dry per the instructions, which didnt take long.
These are nice for reflected heat without electricity. Perfect for indoors and milder climates. While it'd be better than nothing for outdoor/feral cats during northern winter weather, I think you really need something that plugs in for those applications.
We have a pair of the 6 watt pet bed heaters on a big, thin cardboard box with a thick towel over them and the thermal mat on top of the towel in between the heated pet bed pads. The girls switch between the electrically heated pads and the thermal bed. Total of 12 watts to keep them warm and comfortable is a pretty low price to pay.
We'd been using a heating pad on low, but the thermal pet bed heaters use less electricity and have much thicker plastic covers so claws have a harder time penetrating.
