(More customer reviews)I'm a real softy when it comes to animals so I feed a couple of stray cats. Even in Houston we get some frigid weather in the winter time and I've tried various things to keep the outside critters warm without success. Saw this pad and the apparent low wattage and decided to try it. Glad I did. I placed it on the seat of a chair on the covered patio. Took the cats a day or so to discover it but now they sleep on it all the time. I'm very pleased with it and so, apparently, are the cats.
Haven't had it long enough to know if it truly is low wattage but I'll take the manufacturer's word for it until proven otherwise. The cord is nice & long and wrapped an sturdy coiled wire to keep the critters from gnawing on it.

(More customer reviews)We've been turning down the thermostat in the house more during the day, and the 'rulers of the kingdom' (i.e. cats) were displeased.
Before they started an animal riot and demanded better living conditions, we purchased a Thermo-Bed.
We'd used heating pads in the past, but leaving them plugged in and turned on all the time was a safety concern and also made a big dent in the electric bill.
The Thermo-Bed stays at a very low temperature until the animal lays on it, then increases the warmth. In theory this keeps the electric bills from skyrocketing.
I'm sure this works for some situations, but doesn't take into account the extreme laziness and heat-seaking capabilities of our two furry friends.
Darned if they're not laying on the thing 24-7!
The only time they're not on it is when we're feeding them.
In summation, the cats give the Thermo-Bed a resounding 5 star perfect rating. The humans give it 3 stars because our heating bill has increased about $5 a month after installation. The result is a 4 star rating.
If the cats had opposable thumbs, and could have surfed to Amazon.com themselves, they would have given it 5 stars. Cats don't care about electricity bills.

K&H Lectro Soft Outdoor Bed Review

(More customer reviews)The bed is okay. First off, the bottom is always a lot more warm than the top, which seems rather silly to me. The bottom has the cord attached along with a plastic air valve. As it is an air matress, it makes a crinkly sound when my dog steps on it, which I find to be rather annoying, and some pets may find offsetting. The pad is thin and despite the "soft" in the title, it isn't. I ended up having to put a soft dog bed underneath the "bed" so that my great dane would use it.
In short: this isn't a bed, it's a heating pad that is insulated by a small amount of air so that it doesn't have to use as much power. If you're looking for something that your animal will find super comfortable, this probably isn't it.

While trying to get my chicken ark winterized in preparation for cold weather, I discovered there was really not room in the upstairs of the ark where the chickens sleep, for even a light bulb to keep them warm. I began trying to come up with another way. No room for a heater, plus the danger of a fire in such a small enclosed space.
I checked into numerous things, including a foot warmer mat, but most were not designed for outdoor use.
I came across these mats and thought they were the best thing I could use...warm, but not hot, easy to clean (chickens are really messy) and there is wire around the cord to discourage chewing. My chickens, of course, peck at anything unfamiliar to them. This was the product for me and for my chickens.
I have only had the mat plugged in for a few days, because we have had a week long run of cold weather. I also have it plugged into a thermostatically controlled plug. It is a plus that there is little to no risk of fire.
I think this mat will work out just fine for me and my chickens! Nice product.

(More customer reviews)INDOORS IS BEST - but if you have a kitty (like the stray who took up residence in my yard) who simply can't be converted to the indoor life no matter how hard you try, this is a GREAT product!!!
Taffy hopped in on her own after one introductory nudge and clearly thinks she is in heaven. This fits very neatly into my heavy plastic Petmate Barnhome II Pet Shelter (I got at a local store but I see it's also available on Amazon) which keeps it nice and dry - perfect for chilly but not extreme weather. For really cold weather it is a good size to fit into most of the insulated cat shelters that can be found through a simple web search.
Only one small quibble that gets it 4 stars instead of 5: the top-line is stiff but not quite stiff enough, it does tend to start to collapse in the middle a bit if kitty rolls about too enthusiastically. I fixed that easily by nipping a tiny hole in the fabric at each end and running a small plastic dowel through with a couple of inches protruding on each end, problem solved.

(More customer reviews)My cat is around 10 years old and only weighs 9 pounds. So, he is always in search of warm places. I think he has heat vision cause he can find warmth anywhere. I felt bad that he kept laying on top of the stereo to stay warm, so I got him this heated kitty pad. I got the outdoor version because he likes to chew on power cords. But, I use it in indoors.
He sleeps on it for hours a day and seems to love it. The pad is a harder plastic material and I was expecting it to feel more like a padded seat. But, I put a soft t-shirt onit and it doesn't seem to bother him.
Also, if you have the space, get the largest size of the several sizes they have available. I think the one I chose was too small for even a small cat. He can't really stetch out as much as I think he'd like to.
Also, 102 degrees sounds really hot to me, but it is actually a comfortable temperature.
Overall- my cat loves it and I'm glad I got it. Just get the biggest size they have available and plan on using a thin padding or getting Revival's padding so that it is softer but also transfers heat.
