After you heat it in your microwave for 6 minutes, it emits heat of 120 degrees Farenheit for 12 hours. I use it to keep a homeless kitty that has adopted me warm at night. I just heat the disc, stick it in a box under some blankets on my porch, and the kitty is ecstatic. He sits on it like it's an egg, purring. It's safe and very effective on cold winter nights. This is a really great gift for anyone who loves cats.

I am an energy conscious person and I knew that most small space heaters start at around 1000 watts. They blow hot air which promptly rises to the top of the room. Ironic since most people are complaining about their cold feet. Because this item only draws 90-120 watts, it can very safely be run through a timer. This allows you to have it automatically turn on just before you arrive at the office and turn off when you leave in the evening. There is an odor associated when you first begin using it but it does fade in time to be almost un-noticeable.

(More customer reviews)INDOORS IS BEST - but if you have a kitty (like the stray who took up residence in my yard) who simply can't be converted to the indoor life no matter how hard you try, this is a GREAT product!!!
Taffy hopped in on her own after one introductory nudge and clearly thinks she is in heaven. This fits very neatly into my heavy plastic Petmate Barnhome II Pet Shelter (I got at a local store but I see it's also available on Amazon) which keeps it nice and dry - perfect for chilly but not extreme weather. For really cold weather it is a good size to fit into most of the insulated cat shelters that can be found through a simple web search.
Only one small quibble that gets it 4 stars instead of 5: the top-line is stiff but not quite stiff enough, it does tend to start to collapse in the middle a bit if kitty rolls about too enthusiastically. I fixed that easily by nipping a tiny hole in the fabric at each end and running a small plastic dowel through with a couple of inches protruding on each end, problem solved.

(More customer reviews)My cat is around 10 years old and only weighs 9 pounds. So, he is always in search of warm places. I think he has heat vision cause he can find warmth anywhere. I felt bad that he kept laying on top of the stereo to stay warm, so I got him this heated kitty pad. I got the outdoor version because he likes to chew on power cords. But, I use it in indoors.
He sleeps on it for hours a day and seems to love it. The pad is a harder plastic material and I was expecting it to feel more like a padded seat. But, I put a soft t-shirt onit and it doesn't seem to bother him.
Also, if you have the space, get the largest size of the several sizes they have available. I think the one I chose was too small for even a small cat. He can't really stetch out as much as I think he'd like to.
Also, 102 degrees sounds really hot to me, but it is actually a comfortable temperature.
Overall- my cat loves it and I'm glad I got it. Just get the biggest size they have available and plan on using a thin padding or getting Revival's padding so that it is softer but also transfers heat.
