(More customer reviews)My five cats love this fountain! No more trips to the sink to turn on the tap for my feline friends. It's much quieter than the Drinkwells I used to have. I bought two Catit fountains several months ago and I'm very impressed. They really do hold a lot of water. I only have to refill them once a week. Maintainence is a snap! Everything comes apart easily for a once-a-month cleaning (including the pump!)keeping them running smoothly and prevents mold and mineral deposits. The filters are easy to change and inexpensive.
The water flows quietly and smoothly over the dome, provided the fountain is on a level surface. At initial start-up and after refilling it may be necessary to "massage" the dome to break any "static cling" that would prevent smooth-flowing water. The one on the ceramic tile floor is a bit off-level so it doesn't flow as smoothly or as soundlessly as the one on the hardwood floor. But it's a LOT quieter than the Drinkwell fountains. A cushioned placemat underneath the fountains helps catch any kitty-spills and makes the fountains virtually sound-free! I like the bubble design and it doesn't take up much room. I'm very happy with this product.

(More customer reviews)We have 3 labs and have tried just about every waterer on the market. I hated every one of them until we found the Dogit! With this design, instead of the big drinking area that the water pours into there is a very small drinking area which means that you don't have dirt and hair falling into the bowl like you do with most others. Not only that, but where the dog drinks from is raised, which helps with dogs who tend to drink too fast and then yack up the water minutes later. The other units would have to be filled almost daily. This baby holds a lot of water. The one person said the inside of the bowl gets dirty, but with three labs that love the mud as much as ours do I can say that we've never had any problem with the bowl getting dirty. Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about this unit. Everyone that has seen it has loved it. It's quiet compared to others, it's sooooo much cleaner, and it holds more than most others. If your dogs have a drinking problem like ours do or you are just tired of waterers that are dirty and nasty looking after 1 day... do yourself a HUGE favor and buy this fountain!

When I first decided to get a water fontain for my cats I chose the Petmate Freshflow over the Drinkwell because the Drinkwell was more expensive and I was completely against the idea of listening to running water all day. Unlike most customers I've heard from the Petmate worked farily well as a water BOWL. It was easy to clean and my pump never stopped working as I've read many others did. However, the water running down the little ramp really didn't satisfy my cats. They did drink from it, but they would still jump at any chance to drink running water out of a faucet which is the whole reason I started thinking about getting them one in the first place. About a ear and a half later I started thinking about getting them a new one and possibly going with the more expensive Drinkwell this time. I saw the new Drinkwell Platinum and decided to go with it right away. The Platinum is more expensive than both the previous models I was looking at but it is definteley worth the extra cost. It's like Drinkwell took all the criticism and praise for both thier design and their competitors and created an exceptional pet drinking fontain. I have had my Platinum for about 5 months now and have been very pleased with it. The Drinkwell team designed the water outlet so that it would minimize the water from braiding which cuts down on the water noise. In fact at the setting I have mine, about mid way between low and mid level, I can't hear it at all! They also put a little debris trap before the water even gets to the pump which should greatly increase the pumps life. The water resevoir is also much bigger than that of my Petmate and the Drinkwell's optional larger resevoir on their original design. All and all I veiw this as a time where a company actually went out there and designed their product by what thier customers wanted!!! So after reading all that you maybe wondering why I only gave this product 4 stars. Well the one thing that I would really like to see is that the actual bowl area be made of stainless steel or some ceramic mix which is totally what I have been told by several vets is the BEST material for any pet to be drinking/eating out of. If they were to add that one extra feature than I would give this 5 stars out of 5 hands down!!!!!!

Drinkwell Big-Dog Pet Fountain Review

It holds 2.5 gallons of water, I use bottled water to fill it because that's what we drink, so I'm not worried about the filter replacement. In fact.. I don't think the filter is all that useful or purposeful. (A regular charcoal filter that the water flows around) honestly.. I don't think I'll every buy a replacement.. using bottled water as I said I feel it's not really necessary!
Once a week I clean it out.. I did not buy the cleaning kit, again doesn't seem necessary. I use the hose sprayer on my small kitchen sink to turn it upside down in and spray every crack & crevice with our hottest tap water setting for a few minutes. Works great, no scrubbing necessary.
The flow rate adjustment is great too.. fast flow or slow.. .the slow setting makes the least water trickling sound, we don't even hear it, and the fast is like any soothing home water fountain.
2.5 gallons lasts our pack of 2 medium 1 large dogs, and 2 housecats about 1 week.. I may add a little to the bowl before the week is over now that its summer but not much. I let it run down a bit low and then clean it.
I would recommend buying it, and may buy another for our covered outside area as well.

(More customer reviews)I love this fountain and at first it was great. The cats love drinking from the spout and I love the different choices for how many streams of water can come out. There is a huge con to this fountain and you don't see it right away. It gunks up an the water stops coming out of the top. I take it apart and clean it once a week plus changed the filter out every 2 weeks which can be pricey after a while. I don't have a crazy amount of cats or bad water sometimes I even put bottled water in there to see if that was the issue who knows.

(More customer reviews)i have 5 cats that drink from the foutain. i put ice cubes into the bowl to chill the water and to watch them play with the cubes. at first, changing filters every week or 2 weeks got expensive and adds to the landfill. however, i experimented with opening them up. i lightly squeeze them in a vice. then i split them apart with a small screwdriver. i cut filters from "filter cloth" pads available at fish/pet stores. i replace the charcoal, also from pet stores. (plain charcoal, not mixed with ammonia remover) i rinse as instructed and have had no problems. i change them more frequently now. i used original drinkwell 360 filters. i can make a video showing my process if someone needs help. hope this works for someone else. I have had very frustrating experience with this device for I bought 5 units so far since it came out on market.
Everytime, the unit stopped functioning(or water kept on coming out without anything present). Although it broke everytime, I kept on buying a new one because my dogs love this. But now, I give up. Really, this unit works fot the first 2-3 months, and that's it.
