You don't need to refrigerate it (I never have) or soak it in water like other cushions. Just touching it with your warm skin activates the gel inside and it feels cool. The effect lasts for hours and you can always turn it over. This handy vinyl mat is always ready to use and requires no maintenance. Highly recommended for a little relief when you need it.
