(More customer reviews)The clear part of the mat has a slightly textured surface, and the fish and starfish are raised (maybe about 1/16 of an inch) and rubber-like. The mat itself is cute and definitely a good non-slip surface -- it has helped a lot with controlling my very wriggly 5 month old in the bath after he outgrew his baby bathtub.
However -- big downside -- it seems to release a super stink every time it is used. When we first got the mat, it didn't smell too strange, until after the first bath. It smelled so strongly I was worried that I had left the gas on, until I realized the smell was coming from the bathroom, not the kitchen stove. I hoped that the stink would go away after a few uses, but we've had this mat for a few weeks now, and it still has a somewhat skunk-like smell after every shower or bath. It's dissipated enough I don't mind it, and I realize that almost all bath mats like this have some smell, but I don't understand why this one is so strong even after multiple uses.
I love the mat for it's function, but I wish I could do something about the smell!
